Professor Wendy Brown is the Director of the Centre for Obesity Research and Education (CORE) and the Professor of Surgery at Monash University, based at the Alfred Hospital. Her areas of expertise include: the Lap-Band procedure, Sleeve Gastrectomy and Gastric Bypass, the effects of weight loss on health and upper gastrointestinal surgery including cancer and reflux disease.
She serves the broader medical community in a wide variety of roles including serving as a deputy Chair of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) Court of Examiners, immediate Past President of the Obesity Surgery Society of Australia and New Zealand, Vice President of the Australia and New Zealand Gastro Oesophageal Surgical Association, and Clinical Lead for the National Bariatric Surgery Registry. In 2011 she was appointed a member of the Victorian Surgical Consultative Council, by the Victorian Minister for Health. In addition to working at the Centre for Bariatric Surgery, Professor Wendy Brown has a clinical appointment as a Visiting Medical Officer in Upper GI and General Surgery at the Alfred Hospital.
